Laundry Drain

All laundry drains start at the stand pipe. This is the hole were the washer machine discharge its waste water. Some stand pipes have a laundry box attached to its inlet.

Here are several requirements for stand pipe

• All stand pipes must have a P-Trap connected to it.

• The stand pipe can’t be longer than 30” or shorter than 18”.

• Minimum stand pipe diameter is 2" with 2" p-trap.

• The P-Trap must be 6 to 18" above the floor level.

• The P-Trap must be solid with no union in the wall.

The Laundry Box

Fewer rules govern washing machine water supply lines. Connecting the Hot and Cold supply lines to a laundry box is ideal. The laundry box has a 1-1/2 and 2-inch knock-out hold for the drain, also a hot and cold 1/2-inch MIP Connection with Stainless Steel Water Hammer Arrestor. The laundry box makes it easier to turn off the water supply if needed. The drain neatly sits inside the laundry box. The laundry box has a better aesthetics look over the traditional laundry stand pipe that simply sticking out of the wall.

Laundry Drain Backup

The most common problem with laundry drains is that seem to backs up more frequently that other drains due to lit accumulating throughout the drain. Clearing a laundry drain isn’t a simple task. You will require drain cleaning equipment to clear laundry drain as this drain can run for long distances. Lit traps are sold to prevent lint from building up in the drain but they don’t prevent the problem. Lint traps can fall off into the drain causing a much more completed repair, and a higher cost.
